Committee on Athletics

Athletics Committee is a liason between the UA, DAPER, SAAC, and the students. On campus, it is our main goals to: spread awareness of varsity athletics and increase student athlete support around the MIT community; improve the quality of club and IM sports; work with SAAC to help student athletes opinions to be heard and get action taken to suit their needs/desires.

To spread awareness, we host an Athletics Weekend. The purpose of the event is to inspire as much student involvement as possible for all the home sports games on the day-of the event. We have games and giveaway prizes at each game, and we have a campus-wide bbq and give free t-shirts to anyone who attends a sports game. Overall the event has been a great success at getting students to support the varsity teams.

Over the next year, we are going to organize at least one more Athletics Weekend; we are going to try to get club/IM sports teams better equipment; and we want to get a mural painted on the wall of the Z-Center near Steinbrenner Stadium. We will also be asking around to see what else student athletes and take action on getting those things accomplished.
