Executive Committee

The UA's executive branch consists of the president and vice president , who are elected on a combined ticket, and three appointed officers, the treasurer, the secretary general and the director of technology. The executive branch is seen as the "action" part of the UA, as it is responsible for execution of Senate legislation and presidentially appointed tasks.

Committee on Race and Diversity

The committee's responsibilities will include assessing the community environment and suggesting strategies; developing and sponsoring community initiatives to advance race relations and awarding grant funds to support these; sponsoring or cosponsoring community-wide events and forums including, but not limited to, the MLK Breakfast; and advising the administration on matters that arise.

Commencement Committee

The Commencement Committee, composed of members of the faculty, administration, and student body, has charge of the arrangement and conduct of commencement exercises.

MIT’s Community Service Fund provides financial assistance to support MIT student, faculty, and staff volunteers in community service projects and encourages activities that will strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the Institute and the community.

Committee on Undergraduate Programs

The Committee on the Undergraduate Program exercises oversight responsibility for the undergraduate academic program, including the freshman year and interdepartmental programs, giving special attention to long-term directions. This committee is responsible for encouraging experimental innovation in undergraduate educational policy. The committee exercises authority to approve and supervise limited educational experiments.

Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid

CUAFA is a committee of the faculty charged with policy setting for the Admissions Office and the Financial Aid Office. The focus is on shaping the composition of the freshman class. This includes not only the selection process itself but also recruitment (ensuring that the best students are in our applicant pool) and yield (persuading those who have been offered admission to accept it and to choose MIT over other schools). Financial aid figures prominently in the latter.

Committee on Student Life

The faculty Committee on Student Life (CSL) shall be concerned with the quality of the learning and living environment at MIT, with specific attention to issues of community.

Committee on the Library System

The Committee on the Library System shall formulate policy for the administration of the Libraries, with the advice of the Director of Libraries, consistent with the objectives of the Institute. It serves as a liaison between the Libraries and their users. The Committee shall review budget allocations as prepared annually by the Director of Libraries.

Faculty Policy Committee (FPC)

The Faculty Policy Committee formulates policy on matters of concern to the Faculty; interprets and implements policy as approved by the Faculty; coordinates the work of the other Committees of the Faculty, establishes liaisons with them, provides guidance and direction, and refers issues to particular Committees or establishing Ad Hoc Committees as appropriate.

Committee on Discipline

The Committee on Discipline (COD) shall consider such cases of alleged misconduct by students as shall be brought to its attention by the Dean of Students and Undergraduate Education or by any member of the MIT community. An accused student shall be given an opportunity to appear in person at a COD meeting.

Committee on Curricula

The COC approves new undergraduate subjects and changes in existing undergraduate subjects before they can be included in the course catalog. Requests for new S.B. curricula and changes in existing curricula must have COC approval. The COC acts on petitions from students for exceptions to the General Institute Requirements (particularly the Institute laboratory requirement and HASS distributions) and for a second S.B. The COC acts as an advisory body to the Registrar.

Committee on Academic Performance

The Committee interprets and administers Institute academic policy as it concerns individual undergraduate students. The Committee's business can generally be divided into two categories: (1) Individual Student Petitions. Petitions comprise a large portion of the Committee's work and give rise to the bi-weekly meetings throughout the term. Some routine petitions may be acted upon administratively, but many are brought to the Committee for action. (2) End-of-Term Review.

Corporation Joint Advisory Committee on Institute-Wide Affairs

CJAC is the only campus committee that combines Corporation members, students (both undergraduate and graduate), and faculty members. CJAC provides ways for these groups to interact more closely, and its current activities address issues of community as raised in the Report of the Task Force on Student Life and Learning.

Women's Advisory Board

The Women's Advisory Board is representative of many women at MIT. Its members are elected from various constituencies and from various areas of the Institute. The committee works with and advises the Special Assistant to the President on areas of concern to the constituent groups and serves as a communications link with her office.

ROTC Oversight Committee (ROTCOC)

The ROTC Oversight Committee monitors the partnership between the campus ROTC programs and MIT, working closely with the senior MIT administrator responsible for ROTC. The committee responds to issues as they arise and makes recommendations for changes in policy and operational matters where appropriate.

Medical Consumers' Advisory Council (MCAC)

The MCAC is the user response group for MIT Medical. The Committee hears reports from various parts of the Medical Department and from related organizations. There is opportunity for feedback from students, employees, faculty, retirees, etc. The meeting are over lunch and only once or twice a term. Most issues are straightforward, but there are occasion questions that engage the committee and are discussed over several meetings.

Foreign Scholarships, Committee on (CFS)

The members of the Committee on Foreign Scholarships conduct interviews in October and November with applicants for various international scholarships. The committee then meets to evaluate and rate the applicants for the Fulbright-Hays Grant, to select two nominees for the Churchill Scholarship, and to nominate one or more principal candidates and alternates for the DAAD Scholarships.

Council on Family and Work

As part of its mission, the Council on Family and Work monitors the quality of life at MIT and shares its impressions with senior administrators, key committees, and the larger community.
