FY 2010 Student Life Fee Distribution

This summer, the Undergraduate Association worked with the Division of Student Life to release information about the distribution of the Student Life Fee.

For the academic year 2009‐2010, MIT has increased the annual student life fee by $22, from $250 to $272. The increase replaces a separate summer access fee for DAPER and provides additional student activities funds to replace anticipated cuts from other Institute sources. The allocation of the fee is:

Student Activities
Spring Weekend$100,000
Large Event Fund$100,000
Club Sports$108,000
ARCADE$50,000
Fall Festival$35,000
Undergraduate Activities
Class Councils$60,000
Undergraduate Association$90,000

Paid by all graduate and undergraduate students, the annual student life fee was initiated in July 002 to support the newly opened DAPER Z‐Center and to increase funding for student activities and MIT Medical’s Mental Health Services.

The fee makes numerous student life activities possible for both undergraduate and graduate students by funding club sports, student leadership programs, student group conferences and retreats, wellness programs, and large events such as Fall Festival and Spring Weekend. It also supports undergraduate class councils, the Undergraduate Association, and graduate community‐building activities.

Future changes to the fee will be a collaborative effort with representatives from the Undergraduate Association, Graduate Student Council, Dean of Graduate Students, MIT Medical, and the Dean of Student Life.
