Committee on Student Life
Dedicated to improving the status quo of student life at MIT, the Committee on Student Life works for you! This committee, traditionally one of the most engaging of the UA committees, is currently working on a variety of different projects that fall into 6 categories:
- MENTORSHIP: We coordinate the PLUS: Program in Leadership and Undergraduate Success, which links freshmen to upperclassmen in a peer-to-peer, one-on-one mentoring relationship that encompasses the academic, career, and social aspects of MIT.
- WELLNESS: We run the annual Wellness Week, a week in the spring packed with events geared toward promoting physical, nutritional, and mental health on campus, as well as a similar day-long version in the fall called Wellness Day.
- CAMPUS: We coordinate with others to make improvements on campus. Right now, we're working to install power outlets in Stata, add a Staples tent on campus at the beginning of each semester, increase tax support for FSILGs, and improve study spaces.
- TRANSPORTATION: We work with the relevant students and administrators to improve transportation on campus. Right now, we're trying to add: regular shuttles to Target and/or Costco from campus, additional stops to Boston Saferide East, and Boston Daytime on weekends.
- POLICY: We determine the impact of an increase in undergraduate enrollment on several Institute services, as do several other UA Committees. In the past, we have worked on other policy issues, such as Hacking and Printing, among others.
- COMMUNITY: We coordinate several campus-wide events for the community as whole, such as Snow Day, Movie on the Lawn, Capture the Beaver, and more. We are also working with the Public Service Center to run an inter-living-group community service competition in the spring.
The committee is always open to engaging other projects, policy topics, and event ideas -- just e-mail us if you have any questions about what we're doing now or suggestions for new issues to address. If you are dedicated to improving campus life for your fellow undergrads, apply to join CSL!
