One of the charges of the Committee on Technology is the use of technology in the MIT educational system. We work with a number of committees and groups, including MITCET and the Online Study Group, to provide a medium for students to express their feedback regarding these sorts of innovations. In particular, we work with the MIT administration to ensure that efforts such as MITx are operated and directed with student opinion, needs, and desires in mind.
If you have any opinions on these topics, please do not hesitate to email us at ua-technology@mit.edu
The Committee on Technology took over the former ad-hoc Committee on Athena Printing, which was charged with overseeing the process of selecting and deploying a new printing system. That system, called Pharos has now been deployed to all public cluster printers and all centrally maintained dorm printers. You can swipe your MIT ID card at the touchscreen device next to any printer to release and print your job. Please note that the old 3000 page printing quota has been replaced for registered students with a "soft quota." You will not be charged for printing more than 3000 pages, but IS&T may contact you to see if other solutions other than Pharos printing may be more appropriate for your needs. Users who are not currently registered students will be cut off after 3000 pages. Please click here for more information.
The Committee on Technology will continue to work with IS&T to improve Pharos and the printing experience based on student feedback and concerns. Please email student-printing-feedback@mit.edu to contact us.
