This committee is responsible for encouraging experimental innovation in undergraduate educational policy. The committee exercises authority to approve and supervise limited educational experiments.

Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid

CUAFA is a committee of the faculty charged with policy setting for the Admissions Office and the Financial Aid Office. The focus is on shaping the composition of the freshman class. This includes not only the selection process itself but also recruitment (ensuring that the best students are in our applicant pool) and yield (persuading those who have been offered admission to accept it and to choose MIT over other schools). Financial aid figures prominently in the latter.

Committee on Student Life

The faculty Committee on Student Life (CSL) shall be concerned with the quality of the learning and living environment at MIT, with specific attention to issues of community.

Committee on Curricula

The COC approves new undergraduate subjects and changes in existing undergraduate subjects before they can be included in the course catalog. Requests for new S.B. curricula and changes in existing curricula must have COC approval. The COC acts as an advisory body to the Registrar.

Committee on Academic Performance

The Committee interprets and administers Institute academic policy as it concerns individual undergraduate students. The Committee's business can generally be divided into two categories: (1) Individual Student Petitions. Petitions comprise a large portion of the Committee's work and give rise to the bi-weekly meetings throughout the term. Some routine petitions may be acted upon administratively, but many are brought to the Committee for action. (2) End-of-Term Review.
