Sprint Challenges

All submissions are due by January 6 at 11:59PM ET.

While teams are not necessary, teams may have up to 4 members, all of whom must be registered for MIT COVID Hack at tinyurl.com/mitcovidhack2021. Teams do not need to be affiliated with the sponsoring organization.

Submissions may take the form of a one-pager, short video, or powerpoint deck, as long as you flesh out the idea, include an explanation of how the solution addresses the problem, and discuss considerations of foreseen implementation challenges. Winning proposals are thoughtful, creative, and directly address these challenges.

Be on the lookout for more sprint challenges coming soon…

MIT Student athlete advisory committee

Thanks to COVID-19, safe ways to train, practice, and work out have been few and far between. DAPER and DSL want to create outdoor spaces to fill the need that student athletes have for athletic opportunities.

Design a COVID-safe outdoor gym for MIT’s campus in 2021!

International Students Association

Remote learning is a new experience we all are working together to adapt to. International students face additional challenges such as living in different time zones, language barriers, cultural shock, among others.

How can we better integrate international students into remote learning for the spring semester?

Interfraternity Council Challenge 1

The IFC is looking forward to welcoming a new class of ‘24s into its 27 chapters. Several chapters have new member education programs, focused on a variety of key components of the house experience including, but not limited to the following topics:

House history

House values

House management

Living in Boston

Holding safe events

Academic success

While we are currently virtual, the houses will soon become lived-in spaces that need to be taken care of, and the traditions and practices that define each chapter’s living experience should be shared with new members.

What does a new member program that maximizes its value and experience for both existing brotherhood and new members look like?

Interfraternity Council challenge 2

The IFC hopes to open houses in the Fall, and this requires careful management of a variety of aspects of residential life. Houses are distinct entities from the dorms and have separate structures in many regimes. For example, houses lack a front desk in many cases.

Construct a plan for a fall reopening, highlighting ideas that minimize COVID transmission and virus-related risks while retaining key strengths of the fraternity experience, including brotherhood values, effective risk management, and sense of community. Make sure to clarify your key assumptions.

Panhellenic Association

This past year, the Panhellenic Community was faced with meeting new members online and keeping up with each other virtually over this past year. Many social events occurred within individual chapters and were not Panhel-wide.

How can the Panhellenic Community offer more engaging and meaningful ways to socialize virtually? How can we unite our community regardless of affiliation? What are ways that we can make meeting new people easier?

First Generation and/or Low Income Coalition

At MIT, roughly a fifth of undergraduates identify as first generation and/or low-income (FLI). The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted FLI students who face financial limitations. These limitations present barriers (e.g. lacking a sufficient workspace) for these students during times when support systems fail to meet their needs.FLI@MIT is looking for innovative solutions to strengthen and expand awareness of the financial resources that MIT should provide its students.

How could MIT improve the visibility and accessibility of financial resources for socioeconomically disadvantaged students?
